Dr Ray Power

Ray is founder and Medical Director of ‘The Well’ which he set up in April 2003. He qualified as a Medical Doctor from UCD in July 1989 and completed his General Practitioner Training in 1992. He spent a number of years working in Australia as a flying doctor and a General Practitioner and was appointed Assistant Director of the Western Australia Centre for Remote and Rural Medicine in 1993 before returning to Ireland. His special interests included Men’s Health, Health Promotion and Medical Education.

‘The Well’ provides a new concept in individual and corporate wellness through its specialist Executive Medical Health Screening Programme and the provision of a range of lifestyle and diagnostic services. The Executive Medicals have been designed to identify any existing health problems, assess disease risk factors and to provide visitors with the tools and recommendations to help them to achieve a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Since the practice opened, it has welcomed over 20,000 visitors to the practice where the emphasis is to look after the well-being of the whole person and to promote wellness and a healthy lifestyle. We have a team of experienced doctors and specialist nurses, allied health professionals including a physiotherapist, lifestyle consultants, personal trainer, counsellor and psychoanalyst. With direct integration with diagnostic, radiology and pathology services, this innovative advancement in medical delivery assures all visitors to ‘The Well’ of an efficient and timely service in a one-stop shop environment that is consumer orientated and maintains the personal touch.

Changing personal and corporate attitudes to health care have also lended to the success of ‘The Well’. Ireland is becoming a healthier nation but we still lag behind the rest of Europe. People are becoming increasingly aware of the advantages of taking a pro-active interest in their health and the advantages of earlier detection in the treatment of heart disease, cancers and the effects of raised cholesterol. ‘The Well’ offers a vehicle by which visitors can under go a very comprehensive range of tests including access to a low dose high resolution 64 slice CT scan of the coronary arteries where clinically indicated which is provided in association with the Beacon Hospital. The combination of the skill full medical and allied health professional team, the emphasis on the use of evidence based medicine and access to a full range of specialists in the Beacon Clinic assures the visitors to ‘The Well’ of an integrated approach to the management of their healthcare.

To further enhance the lifestyle and wellness of visitors to ‘The Well’, the practice also provides a lifestyle and fitness programme, a Sleep Well programme to uncover the causes of excessive snoring, daytime sleepiness and tiredness and to diagnose sleep apnoea. We have also an integrated ultrasound service.

‘The Well’ forms part of a group of medical practices collectively called Centric Health, which in addition to an Executive Medical Health Screening Service also has a specialist Occupational Medical Service (The Well at Work), Urgent Care Centres, GP Practices and a Radiology/Teleradiology company called Global Diagnostics.
