Dr. Shiobhan Weston received her medical degree from The Royal College of Surgeons in 1992. She completed her internship and residency in general medicine as well as one year as a registrar in hepatology at The Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. She left Ireland in 1996 and completed her ABIM requirements in internal medicine and subspecialty training in gastrointestinal motility disorders, cholestatic liver disease, and inflammatory bowel disease at The Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by a 3 year fellowship in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology at UCLA and the UCLA-Dumont Transplant Center in Los Angeles, California. She was awarded an advanced hepatology research fellowship award and funding for formal training in clinical research, epidemiology, biostatistics, and liver transplant medicine at University of San Francisco, California. Her research more recently has focused on the study of metabolic syndrome and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Prior to her current appointment, Dr. Weston was Director for the Center for Liver Disease at Winthrop-University Hospital and Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York.


Dr. Weston is a member of a number of professional organizations including the American Society of Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and is board certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. She has been involved in several important clinical research studies in gastroenterology and liver disease and her work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Weston has co-authored 2 book chapters, and presented over 20 abstracts at international meetings on gastroenterology and liver disease.

Interests
Colorectal cancer screening and surveillance, inflammatory bowel disease, peptic ulcer disease and advanced GI haemostasis techniques, gastro-oesoophageal reflux disease, viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and steatohepatitis (NASH), and liver transplantation.
